Can I learn the Alexander Technique on my own?
What can I expect from studying the Technique? The average student should expect to notice the effects of studying the Alexander Technique after about 10 -12 lessons. Typically a series of 30 lessons taken consistently, that is once, twice, or three times a week, is recommended to get a handle on and establish a good foundation in the Alexander Technique. Many students choose to continue taking lessons beyond this to further refine their skills under the guidance of a trained teacher. Taking lessons close together, especially at the onset of study, offers students a clearer understanding of how to apply the Alexander Technique and encourages more lasting change. Will I always need lessons? No. The Alexander Technique is method of self care. After a series of lessons with a certified teacher you should be able to apply the Alexander Technique to anything you do from dancing, to using the computer, to sitting through a long meeting. Once you have a good foundation, you will be able to continue building your skills on your own. How do I schedule a lesson? Lessons typically run 40--45 minutes. A minimum course of 30 lessons taken consistently, once or twice a week, is recommended to establish a good foundation in the Alexander Technique. Lesson times are available Wednesdays-Saturdays. Please call or e-mail the studio to schedule a lesson.
Cash and personal checks accepted. I do not accept credit cards at this
time. Payment is expected in full at the time of the lesson or if purchasing
a lesson package, at the first lesson.
